Do Ma

I just realized I had not posted in awhile and wondered if I was eating the same things over and over (because you know I *am* eating!).  Kind of looks that way!  One place that I have been visiting lately that I haven’t posted about yet is Jenni’s Noodle House here on Shepherd (a hop, skip and jump away from me).  It’s a small diner-like restaurant with very friendly people (who all seem to wear the Sriracha hot sauce shirts which crack me up).  It reminds me of Vietnamese “fast food”, with a little Thai thrown in.  The food is pretty good (for fast food), if not as cheap as some CitySearch reviewers claim; if you go to an authentic Vietnamese restaurant it’s dirt ass cheap!  One thing I like about it a lot is that it has a good selection of vegetarian options.  I still love my meat <smirk>, but every now and then tofu sounds good too.

One of my all time favorite Vietnamese restaurants is Cali Sandwich located in Midtown.  Wow and yum are the two words that come to my mind every time I eat here; and they definitely have more than just sandwiches.  The Banh Mi (Vietnamese sandwiches) are tasty, toasty and cheap!  I can’t believe I only pay $2 for such a great meal (sure beats a damn subway sadwich!).  My favorite is the BBQ Grilled Pork…delicious!  The Cha Gio (Vietnamese egg rolls) are probably some of the best ones I’ve had in town.  My favorite dish is the Com Ga something (grilled chicken with broken rice).  I think they grill an entire chicken breast and it’s served atop some really yummy rice which always ends up being two meals for me. The Bun (vermecelli bowls) are great as well.  The one thing that may put off newbies is that the waitstaff do not like to be kept waiting once you claim a table.  The crowds can get pretty intense at times since it is a small place and I have seen people lined out the door, hence the “What you order?!” yelled at you as soon as you sit.  Take a shot of tequila (if needs be) and brave the experience, it is totally worth it!!
